Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC): Key Information:

What Does a Police Check Show in Australia?

An Australian National Police Check provides a summary of criminal history records across all Australian jurisdictions.

It includes information such as:

  • Court convictions (offences for which the person was found guilty in court)
  • Pending charges (criminal proceedings or accusations awaiting resolution)
  • Findings of guilt without a recorded conviction (instances where a magistrate or judge finds the person guilty but decides not to enter a formal conviction)
  • Good behaviour bonds and orders (sanctions imposed for misconduct arising from criminal proceedings)
  • Serious traffic offences (road traffic violations that proceeded to court)

It does not include information such as:

  • Spent convictions (older convictions that, under state or territory laws, qualify to be removed from the record and are legally exempt from disclosure)
  • Minor traffic infringements (common infractions such as speeding or improper parking fines)
  • Criminal records from other countries (the check covers history exclusively within Australian territory)
